Introduction

The Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences (PoAHS), located in Ramghat, Pokhara, is a prominent public health sciences institution in Nepal. Established in 2015 by upgrading the Western Regional Hospital, PoAHS serves as both a medical education center and a tertiary care hospital, catering to the healthcare needs of the Gandaki Province and beyond.

Historical Background

• 1957: Founded as the Soldier Board Hospital by Major Bir Singh Gurung.

• 1962: Handed over to the Government of Nepal and renamed Kaski District Hospital.

• 1976: Upgraded to Gandaki Zonal Hospital.

• 1986: Expanded to a 150-bed facility.

• 1995: Further development with additional departments and increased bed capacity.

• 2015: Transformed into the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences through legislative action. ​
