Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) is the principal teaching hospital of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) under Tribhuvan University, located in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, Nepal. Since its establishment in 1982, the hospital has evolved into Nepal’s most advanced tertiary care institution, serving as a national center for medical education, clinical practice, research, and public healthcare.
🏥 History and Establishment
TUTH was inaugurated in 1982 with financial and technical support from the Government of Japan (JICA). It was designed to be the central clinical training and research facility for medical students enrolled at the Institute of Medicine, which had been established earlier in 1972.
From a modest beginning, TUTH has expanded into a 700-bed hospital offering comprehensive services across virtually all medical specialties and super-specialties. It remains a beacon of academic excellence and clinical care in Nepal.
