Introduction

Mechi Provincial Hospital, formerly known as Mechi Zonal Hospital, is a leading government health institution in Bhadrapur Municipality-08, Jhapa District, in Koshi Province, Nepal. It is one of the oldest and most important public hospitals in eastern Nepal, serving thousands of patients annually from Jhapa and neighboring districts.

Originally established in 2015 BS (1958–1959 AD), the hospital has evolved from a small 25-bed health facility into a well-equipped 134-bed provincial hospital. It now plays a vital role in the public healthcare delivery system of Koshi Province.

  • 1958–59 (2015 BS): Founded as Mechi Zonal Hospital with only 25 beds.

  • 1977–78 (2034 BS): Upgraded to a 50-bed hospital to meet growing demand.

  • 2020s: Officially designated as Mechi Provincial Hospital after the restructuring of Nepal into federal provinces. It now operates under the Ministry of Social Development, Koshi Province.
